F. Christopher Pigge is an Associate Professor in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Iowa. He obtained his BA from The College of Wooster, PhD from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and completed postdoctoral training at Wayne State University. His research group focuses on synthetic organic chemistry with applications in medicinal chemistry, materials science, and radiochemistry.
Research interests span organic synthesis, supramolecular chemistry, and materials design, with specific emphasis on:
- Development of novel synthetic methodologies using organometallics and dearomatization tactics
- Design of heterocyclic compounds and natural product synthesis
- Construction of supramolecular assemblies through crystal engineering
- Development of bio-conjugation reagents for radiopharmaceutical applications
- Creation of functional materials with aggregation-induced emission properties
His publications demonstrate consistent focus on heterocyclic chemistry, catalytic methodologies, and functional materials development, with recent work emphasizing fluorescent sensors, radiopharmaceutical conjugates, and supramolecular assemblies. Research frequently employs cyclization strategies, transition metal catalysis, and crystal engineering principles to address challenges in synthetic chemistry and materials design.
Professor Pigge leads an active research group with several graduate students and collaborators. His work includes collaborations with the Department of Radiology on radiopharmaceutical development and maintains instrumentation facilities including NMR, mass spectrometry, and X-ray diffraction capabilities.
