Dr. Fátima Gebauer is a Group Leader at the Centre for Genomic Regulation (CRG) in Barcelona, Spain, since 2002. Her research focuses on RNA-binding proteins and their role in translational control, particularly in cancer progression and Drosophila development. She leads a research team studying how RNA networks maintain cell homeostasis and how their deregulation contributes to diseases like melanoma.
- PhD in Biological Sciences (1990) from the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Autónoma University of Madrid
- Postdoctoral training at Worcester Foundation for Biomedical Research (1992-1996), EMBL (1996-2000)
Her research bridges post-transcriptional regulation and oncogenesis, targeting mechanisms like mRNA translation and RNA networks in melanoma metastasis. Current projects include exploring RNA-based therapeutics for brain disorders funded by the BIST Ignite Grant.
Scientific awards include:
- EMBO Membership (2017)
- Ramón y Cajal Award (2002)
- Marie Curie Postdoctoral Fellowship (1996)
- Spanish Ministry of Science Postdoctoral Fellowship (1993)
- NATO Postdoctoral Fellowship (1992)
- Spanish Ministry of Science PhD Fellowship (1987)
Her lab at CRG collaborates with institutions like the Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia (IBEC) and receives funding from organizations such as the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Innovation, AGAUR, La Caixa Foundation, and the Melanoma Research Alliance.
