Eylem Elma

Eylem Elma is a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the University of Oxford, affiliated with the Marine Spatial Ecology Applications (MSEA) Lab. Her research focuses on tropical marine ecology, conservation, and management, with a geographic emphasis on the Western Indian Ocean (WIO) region. She employs statistical methods, GIS, and remote sensing technologies to address ecological challenges.

Her current research includes:

• Blue Carbon Ecosystems: Mapping seagrass habitats to support climate change mitigation and policy development under the Paris Agreement.
• Coral Reef Ecology: Investigating post-disturbance recovery processes and ecosystem resilience in coral reefs.

Research Trends: Her work bridges ecological analysis with policy applications, leveraging UAV-based remote sensing and spatial technologies to study marine habitats. Recent studies highlight coral reef degradation from global bleaching events and seagrass conservation strategies.
