Professor Ewa Nowicka-Rusek is a distinguished sociologist and social anthropologist affiliated with Civitas University. Her academic career includes leadership as Head of the Department of Social Anthropology at the University of Warsaw's Institute of Sociology from 2001 to 2013.
Her research examines intercultural dynamics through key themes:
- Homeliness/foreignness dichotomies
- Cultural contact zones in Siberia/Balkans
- Polish diaspora in post-Soviet states
- Roma communities in Central Europe
- Contemporary migration patterns
She led the National Science Centre-funded project "Poles and others thirty years later", exploring evolving intergroup relations. Her publications reveal consistent focus on identity negotiation in transnational contexts, with recent works analyzing minority resilience (Roma in Poland), cultural revival (Carpathian pastoralism), and Siberian ethnic identity (Buryat communities). Methodologically, she combines anthropological fieldwork with sociological analysis of power asymmetries.
