Prof. Dr. Evgeny Epelbaum is a W3 Professor of Theoretical Physics, specializing in Hadron and Nuclear Physics at Ruhr-Universität Bochum. His research focuses on the internal structure of hadrons, effective field theories (e.g., chiral perturbation theory), and few-baryon systems. He applies lattice-based computational methods and Monte Carlo simulations to analyze hadronic observables.
Education: Abitur (1990), Physics Diploma (summa cum laude) from Ruhr University Bochum (1997), and a Dr. rer. nat. in theoretical physics from Ruhr-Universität Bochum and Forschungszentrum Jülich (2000). His doctoral work centered on nucleon-nucleon interactions in chiral effective field theory.
Research highlights include studies on quark mass dependence, hyperon-nucleon interactions, and electromagnetic processes in light nuclei. He led the Helmholtz-University Junior Research Group (2006–2011) and held a Nathan Isgur Fellowship at Jefferson Lab (2003–2006). Notably, he declined offers for permanent W2 positions at the University of Bonn and an Associate Professorship at the University of Basel.
Prof. Epelbaum’s work bridges fundamental QCD principles with practical computational frameworks, advancing nuclear and particle physics through systematic, model-independent analyses.
