Everett V. Smith is a Professor in the Department of Educational Psychology at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC). He serves as Coordinator of the MEd MESA Online program and holds editorial roles for the Journal of Applied Measurement and Educational and Psychological Measurement. His expertise centers on psychometrics, particularly Rasch measurement theory, with applications across social, behavioral, health, and medical sciences.
Dr. Smith earned his PhD in Educational Psychology from the University of Connecticut. His research focuses on test design, rating scale analysis, and robustness of measurement models, addressing topics like dimensionality, differential item functioning (DIF), cross-cultural equivalence, equating, and standard setting.
He has co-edited influential books including Introduction to Rasch Measurement (2004), Rasch Measurement: Advanced Applications (2006), and Criterion-Reference Testing (2009). His work bridges theoretical psychometrics with practical assessment challenges in diverse fields.
