- Thesis: Fantastic Variations. The example of Leo Perutz
Dr. Jacquelin's research focuses on the fantastic and marvelous in literature, particularly examining the tension between mimesis and the marvelous. Her work traces the emergence of the fantastic in 18th-century German literature, placing it within the historical development of the marvelous and its forms. Her research spans German-language literature from the Enlightenment to Romanticism, with special attention to 20th-century Austrian literature, particularly the works of Leo Perutz and Franz Innerhofer. She has made significant contributions to genre theory, exploring the relationship between popular forms and literary forms, especially the tale and its developments in the German-speaking world.
Her recent publications demonstrate a consistent focus on German fantastic literature across historical periods, with particular attention to E.T.A. Hoffmann, Leo Perutz, and the development of the fantastic genre from the Enlightenment through Romanticism. Her work shows a methodological approach that combines close textual analysis with broader historical and cultural contexts, examining how the fantastic serves as a medium for social criticism and historical reflection.
As an active academic leader, Dr. Jacquelin has co-directed numerous scholarly collections and edited volumes on the marvelous and fantastic literature. She has organized multiple interdisciplinary conferences and doctoral seminars on topics including folktales, literary transformations, and the circulation of fictional narratives across European spaces. Her collaborative work with scholars across France and Europe demonstrates her commitment to advancing research in Germanic studies and comparative literature.
Dr. Jacquelin leads the 'TransLiterary' research team within the 'Texts and Cultures' laboratory, which focuses on interdisciplinary approaches to literary studies. Her work with the 'TransContes' seminar explores the transformations of folktales between oral and written traditions, highlighting the dynamic nature of narrative forms across cultural boundaries.
