Evelyne Huber is the Morehead Alumni Professor of Political Science and Director of Graduate Studies at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She holds a Ph.D. (1977) and M.A. (1973) from Yale University, following undergraduate studies at the University of Zurich. Her research focuses on comparative politics, political economy, and welfare state development with a regional emphasis on Latin America and postindustrial democracies.
Huber's work examines redistribution dynamics, inequality, and the interplay between political institutions and economic systems. Key publications include Capitalist Development and Democracy (1992), Development and Crisis of the Welfare State (2001), and Democracy and the Left (2012). Her research has been recognized with major awards, including the APSA Political Economy Section’s Best Book Award (2001) and a Guggenheim Fellowship (2010).
- Awards: Honorary Doctorate (University of Bern, 2010), ASA Outstanding Book Awards (2013), Distinguished Teaching Award (UNC, 2004).
- Leadership: Former President of the Latin American Studies Association (2012–2013).
Her current research addresses social investment policies, financialization, and the political determinants of inequality. Huber collaborates frequently with John D. Stephens and maintains affiliations with the Center for European Studies.
