Evelyne Ender is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Comparative Thought and Literature at Johns Hopkins University’s Krieger School of Arts & Sciences. She holds a Doctorat ès lettres in Comparative Literature from the University of Geneva and has held visiting appointments at Yale, Harvard, MIT, and professorial roles at the University of Washington, Hunter College, and CUNY Graduate Center. Her research focuses on 19th- and 20th-century literatures, literary theory, psychoanalysis, feminist criticism, and memory studies.
Her major works include Sexing the Mind: Nineteenth-Century Fictions of Hysteria (1995) and Architexts of Memory: Literature, Science, and Autobiography (2005), which won the MLA Scaglione Prize. Current projects explore handwriting, graphology, and literary creativity in the digital age through her manuscript Hand Writing.
Professor Ender has contributed to PMLA through editorial coordination of the “Learning to Read” forum (2015) and is actively involved in interdisciplinary research on reading practices, affect, and memory. Her courses address gender and illness, literature and psychoanalysis, and philosophical approaches to reading.
