Evelyn Steinhauer, PhD, MEd, BA, is a Professor in the Department of Educational Policy Studies at the University of Alberta's Faculty of Education, and currently serves as Associate Dean in the Faculty's Deans Office. She holds dual roles combining academic leadership with specialized research in Indigenous education.
Her research focuses on Aboriginal student experiences across educational systems, policy impacts on Indigenous education, Tribal College success factors, barriers to post-secondary access for Native students, and Indigenous knowledge systems through methodologies like oral tradition. She directs the Aboriginal Teacher Education Program (ATEP), emphasizing community-engaged scholarship.
Teaching includes NS 260 - Contemporary Indigenous Art, exploring visual art's role in addressing colonialism, cultural identity, and social justice. Her work integrates academic rigor with community partnership, addressing systemic inequities through policy analysis and culturally responsive pedagogy.
