Evelyn Soto is an Assistant Professor of English at Rutgers University since 2023. Her research focuses on Latina/o/x literary and cultural studies, hemispheric literary studies, and transnational histories of race. She holds a PhD and MA from the University of Pennsylvania and a BA (summa cum laude) from Cornell University.
Her current book project, Tainted Translations: Early Latinx Political Imaginaries and Trans-American Empire, examines interconnected revolutionary movements across the Caribbean, South America, and the US during the 19th century. This work challenges narratives of US exceptionalism and Latin American racial democracy. Supported by grants from ACLS, the Mellon Foundation, and others, her research explores archival theories, translation studies, and gender/sexuality frameworks.
