Evelyn Lobsiger-Kägi

Evelyn Lobsiger-Kägi is a Senior Researcher and Lecturer at the Zurich University of Applied Sciences (ZHAW) School of Engineering, where she serves as Co-Head of the Energy Behaviour Team. Her expertise spans sustainable energy systems, energy behavior, sufficiency, Smart City initiatives, and Living Labs approaches to sustainability-oriented community management.

Dr. Lobsiger-Kägi completed her MSc in Environmental Science at ETH Zurich (2001-2006) and earned a Teaching Certificate in Environmental Studies from the same institution (2008-2010). She has built her career at ZHAW, starting as a Scientific Assistant (2007-2008) and advancing to Senior Researcher (2009-2023), with prior experience as a Scientific Associate at ETH Zurich's Institute for Environmental Decision (2006-2007).

Her research focuses on understanding how behavioral interventions, digital tools, and community engagement can drive energy transitions at household and neighborhood levels. She investigates the effectiveness of app-based communities for energy sufficiency, peer-to-peer interaction for promoting energy-sufficient routines, and persuasive technologies for reducing hot water consumption. Her work bridges the gap between technological solutions and human behavior, emphasizing practical implementation in real-world settings through Living Labs methodologies.

Her recent publications reveal a strong emphasis on translating research into practical applications, with numerous studies examining long-term impacts of behavior change interventions, community-level collaborative approaches, and social comparison techniques for enhancing energy-saving behaviors. She has developed innovative tools like persona tools for energy behavior analysis and sustainability lifestyle typologies to better target interventions.
