Evanthia Baboula is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Art History & Visual Studies at the University of Victoria, affiliated with the Faculty of Fine Arts. She is on leave until July 2025.
- Education: Ptychion (BA) in Archaeology and Art History from the University of Athens, MPhil and DPhil in Archaeology from the University of Oxford (2003).
Her research focuses on the material and visual cultures of the Mediterranean, particularly cross-cultural interactions in the Eastern Mediterranean during the Crusader period and Late Byzantine era (12th–15th centuries). She also explores the post-Byzantine art and architecture of Greece during the Ottoman period and ancient/medieval funerary practices alongside metals production and circulation.
Recent publications include co-edited volumes on Byzantine and Islamic art and Canadian contributions to Islamic archaeology, reflecting her expertise in cross-cultural exchange and material studies. Her work bridges literary and visual sources, emphasizing the interplay of text and image in medieval Mediterranean societies.
