Evan T. Ortlieb

Evan T. Ortlieb is a Professor and Director of the Manhattan Campus at St. John's University, where he also coordinates the PhD Program in the School of Education. His expertise spans literacy education, teacher preparation, and leveraging diversity in classrooms. He has held international roles in Singapore and Australia, and currently serves as Past-President of the Specialized Literacy Professionals SIG (International Literacy Association) and Board Member of the International Innovative Community Group (Literacy Research Association).

Education: PhD in Curriculum & Instruction (Louisiana State University), MEd in Elementary Education (LSU), BS in Elementary Education (LSU).

Research focuses on literacy teacher preparation, digital literacies, language diversity, and differentiated instruction. Over 125 publications include the book series Literacy, Research, Practice and Evaluation, and influential articles on literacy interventions and teacher education.

Outreach: President of the Ortlieb Foundation (providing college scholarships for cancer survivors). Active in professional organizations, including serving as Section Editor for the Journal of Adolescent & Adult Literacy.
