Evan Gelobter is an Assistant Professor of Academic Support at Southern University Law Center, where he focuses on the legal frameworks of slavery in the Antebellum South.
Education:
- BS from Liberty University (2008), cum laude
- JD from Southern University Law Center (2019), cum laude
His research critically examines slave laws, judicial enforcement of racial subjugation, and contradictions in U.S. Constitutional development during the Early Republic and Antebellum periods. He explores how these legal systems perpetuated slavery while claiming to uphold liberty.
Recent Publications (2025-2026): Articles analyze Louisiana’s Civil Code, comparative Antebellum court decisions, legal endorsement of violence, and state-specific slavery jurisprudence. Themes include racial justice, judicial complicity in oppression, and the evolution of slavery laws.
