Prof. Dr. Dr. Eva Winkler is the Executive Director of the National Center for Tumor Diseases (NCT) Heidelberg and Professor of Translational Medical Ethics at Heidelberg University. She leads the Section for Translational Medical Ethics, addressing ethical challenges in translational cancer research. As a board-certified oncologist, she works clinically at the Department of Medical Oncology, University Hospital Heidelberg.
Education:
- MD (1994-2000), PhD in Medical Oncology (DKFZ/Heidelberg University)
- Second PhD in Medical Ethics (University of Basel, 2006-2010)
- Fellowships at Harvard Medical School’s Division of Medical Ethics and Kennedy School of Government (2002-2004)
Research Focus: Ethical dimensions of clinical research, personalized medicine, and healthcare policy. Active in interdisciplinary projects like EURAT (Ethical and Legal Aspects of Translational Medicine) and leadership roles in ethics boards such as the German Ethics Council and Central Ethics Commission (ZEKO).

- Best Dissertation Award, University of Basel (2010)
Leadership & Grants: Spearheads ethics programs for clinical trials and patient-centered care. Holds leadership in the Heisenberg Professorship (2019-2024) and chairs ethics committees nationally and internationally.
Labs/Teams: Heads the Translational Medical Ethics Section at NCT Heidelberg, collaborating with clinical and bioethics researchers across Germany and Europe.
