Eva Galka, M.D. serves as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Surgery at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry. A board-certified surgical oncologist, she specializes in hepato-pancreatico-biliary cancers, gastrointestinal malignancies, melanoma, and sarcoma. Dr. Galka maintains clinical practice across multiple UR Medicine facilities including Strong Memorial Hospital, Wilmot Cancer Institute, and Surgery Center at Sawgrass.
Her educational background includes dual Bachelor of Science degrees with highest honors in Ceramic Engineering and Biomedical Engineering & Applied Sciences from Rutgers University, followed by her M.D. from Dartmouth Medical School. Her surgical training encompasses a General Surgery residency and research fellowship at Penn State Hershey Medical Center, and a Surgical Oncology fellowship at the University of Chicago.
Dr. Galka's research centers on apoptosis mechanisms and novel cancer treatments, with clinical trials including the Melanoma Margins Trial-II and a chemoprevention study using green tea for DCIS. Her 11 publications from 2004-2022 demonstrate evolving expertise from molecular immunology to hepatobiliary surgical outcomes, consistently addressing cancer treatment optimization and complication prevention.
