Eva Fiks

Eva Fiks is a Lecturer in Medical Anthropology at Keele University’s School of Medicine. Her research focuses on the intersection of biomedicine, political anthropology, and reproductive sociology, with a regional specialization in India. She holds a Ph.D. in Anthropology from Brunel University (2016), an MSc in Social Anthropology from the University of Edinburgh (2009), and a BA in Political Science from Vilnius University (2008). Her work examines reproductive lifeworlds, care, chronicity, and state interventions in rural North India, particularly regarding sterilization practices and their socio-political implications. She has published extensively in journals including Medical Anthropology, Anthropology & Medicine, and Medical Anthropology Quarterly.

Her book State Intimacies: Sterilization, Care and Reproductive Chronicity in Rural North India (2024) explores how state-sanctioned healthcare interventions intersect with women’s lived experiences in conditions of structural disenfranchisement. Current research includes investigating reproductive lifeworlds amid the climate crisis and interdisciplinary collaborations on medical education ethics.

She supervises PhD students in areas like abortion experiences in Sub-Saharan Africa and homelessness in Stoke-on-Trent. Her work bridges anthropological theory with contemporary issues of global health equity and institutional power dynamics.
