Eva Broström serves as Adjunct Professor and Head of Division at Karolinska Institutet's Department of Women's and Children's Health, leading the Pediatric Neurology Division and the Movement, Activity and Health research group. Her clinical leadership spans Astrid Lindgren Children's Hospital units including Neuropediatrics and the Center for Clinical Pediatric Studies (2021-2024).
Her educational background includes economics and pedagogy from Stockholm University, physiotherapy licensure, a PhD from Karolinska Institutet (2004) under Professor Hans Forssberg, and an eight-month postdoc at Harvard Medical School with Professor Henrik Malchau.
Broström's research integrates motion science with pediatric rehabilitation, focusing on gait analysis in rheumatological and neurological conditions, patient-reported outcome/experience measures (PROMs/PREMs), and virtual reality applications. She pioneered Sweden's three-dimensional motion analysis system at MotorikLab and established the Core Facility for Movement, Activity, and Health, enabling precise biomechanical assessment for clinical interventions.
Her publication trends (2019-2025) reveal three dominant streams: 1) Pediatric orthopedics (cerebral palsy hip management, achondroplasia gait), 2) Rheumatology interventions (JASP-1 support program, transition care), and 3) Osteoarthritis biomarker discovery using proteomics and motion analysis. These reflect her dual commitment to clinical problem-solving and methodological innovation.
Broström has secured competitive funding including a Swedish Research Council grant for ESMAC conference participation. Her strategic initiatives include founding the medical XR group for extended reality applications in pediatric rehabilitation, as highlighted in KI's 2025 news coverage.
She has supervised 5 PhD students to completion as main supervisor and 4 as co-supervisor, with current mentorship of 1 doctoral candidate as main supervisor and 8 as co-supervisor. Her teaching portfolio includes KI courses on gait analysis since 2007 and neuropediatric nursing education.
Broström directs the Movement, Activity and Health research group and the newly established medical XR group, fostering collaborations with Professor Maura Iversen (Harvard) and Astrid Lindgren Children's Hospital clinical units. Her work bridges the MotorikLab motion analysis facility with clinical implementation through Astrid Lindgren Children's Hospital partnerships.
