Prof. Dr. Eva Barlösius is a Professor of Macrosociology/Social Structure Analysis at the Institute of Sociology, Faculty of Philosophy, Leibniz University Hannover. She serves as Chair of the Audit Committee, participates in the Examination Board for Science and Society, acts as BAföG representative, and represents professors on various committees. Additionally, she is the Founder of the Leibniz Research Centre for Science and Society (LCSS).
Her educational and professional background includes:
- Since 2007: Professorship for Macrosociology/Social Structure Analysis at Leibniz University Hannover
- 2016-2018: Founder and Director of the Leibniz Research Center Science and Society
- 2006: Appointed Professor of General Sociology at the University of Duisburg-Essen
- 2004: Appointed Professor at the University of Hohenheim and Head of the Competence Center "Gender and Nutrition"

Eva Barlösius focuses her research on the Sociology of inequality, Sociology of food, and Sociology of science. Her work examines social structures, power relations, and cultural patterns related to these domains. She investigates how social order is maintained and challenged through various mechanisms including food practices, body norms, poverty, and scientific knowledge production.
Her recent publications reveal a strong focus on concepts of originality in scientific disciplines, heterodoxy in research, village structures as social formations, poverty studies, and the sociology of body and obesity. Barlösius employs both theoretical analysis and empirical research to explore how social norms shape individual experiences and institutional practices.
Prof. Barlösius leads several significant research projects including:
- DFG project on disciplinary concepts of originality and data sharing
- MWK project on scientific expertise for political decisions
- Multiple LCSS bridge projects examining gender and scientific language, research data handling, epistemic robustness, and tenured-track professorships
She is actively involved in academic service through various committees and represents the Institute of Sociology in multiple capacities, demonstrating strong institutional engagement alongside her research and teaching activities.
