Eurico N. Wilhelm is an Assistant Professor in the Sport Exercise and Rehabilitation Department at Northumbria University. Previously, he held positions as Lecturer in Exercise Physiology at Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS, Brazil) from 2018 to 2020 and served as a postdoctoral fellow at UFPel (Brazil), managing the HAEL study. He completed his PhD in Exercise Physiology at Brunel University London (2013–2016) and holds an MSc from UFRGS (2011–2013).
His research focuses on the interplay between muscular and vascular systems in health and aging, emphasizing resistance training, vascular adaptations, and endothelial cell biology. Key interests include optimizing exercise strategies to combat age-related decline and improve cardiovascular and musculoskeletal health.
Recent work highlights include studying sex differences in high-intensity exercise responses, muscle activation patterns in lower-limb exercises, and the blood pressure-lowering effects of resistance training in older adults. His publications span peer-reviewed journals such as British Journal of Sports Medicine and Experimental Gerontology.
Dr. Wilhelm accepts PhD students and has contributed to initiatives like the HAEL trial, integrating lifestyle interventions into hypertension management. His research combines experimental physiology with clinical applications, aiming to bridge basic science and real-world health outcomes.
