Eunice Matthews-Armstead is a Professor of Social Work and Coordinator of the Social Work Program at Eastern Connecticut State University. She holds a BSW from Morgan State University, MSW from Columbia University, and a PhD in Sociology from CUNY Graduate Center. Her research focuses on foster youth in higher education, campus diversity, and emotional intelligence in social work practice. Dr. Matthews-Armstead has over 11 years of child welfare experience and previously taught at Fordham University's Graduate School of Social Services.
Her work bridges clinical practice with systemic issues, addressing developmental trauma, adolescent challenges, and racial dynamics on college campuses. Key publications include studies on Black Hartford's social health, father-daughter relationships, and racial divides in academia.
Teaching interests include clinical practice skills, community organizing, and race/ethnic relations. Her presentations include a NRC-FAHE webinar on foster youth needs in higher education.
