Eugenio Rocksmith

Eugenio Rocksmith is an Assistant Professor in the Department of of Neurology at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. He serves as Co-Director of the Brain Injury Unit at the University of Maryland – Rehabilitation & Orthopedic Institute, where he manages medical complications in patients undergoing acute inpatient rehabilitation.

Education:

• B.S. in Engineering, U.S. Air Force Academy (1984)
• M.D., UMDNJ – New Jersey School of Medicine (1995)
• Postgraduate training in Ob-Gyn, Internal Medicine, and Adult Neurology at UMDNJ-NJ Medical School
• Fellowship in Neurologic Rehabilitation at Weill Medical College of Cornell University and Burke Rehabilitation Hospital

Dr. Rocksmith's research focuses on long-term outcomes for brain injury survivors, pharmacologic management of acute post-traumatic encephalopathy, and concussion evaluation. His publications and presentations highlight TBI prognosis, technological innovations in neurorehabilitation, and patient navigation strategies.

Scientific Contributions:

• Explored predictors of long-term outcomes in severe TBI
• Investigated barriers to recovery after acute inpatient rehabilitation
• Developed protocols for concussion management and medication optimization in brain injury patients

He maintains clinical involvement through weekly brain injury unit continuity clinics and specialized concussion clinics at UM Rehab.
