Eugenijus Valatka

Prof. Dr. Eugenijus Valatka serves as the Rector of Kaunas University of Technology (KTU) since 2018, having been re-elected for a second term in 2023. He is a Professor at the Department of Physical and Inorganic Chemistry within the Faculty of Chemical Technology, and also affiliated with the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences. His leadership extends to national and international academic organizations.

His educational background includes:

Prof. Valatka's research focuses on catalysis, electrochemistry, and photochemistry, with particular emphasis on physical chemistry and photocatalysis. His work bridges fundamental chemical principles with practical applications in energy conversion and environmental remediation. He has established himself as a leading researcher in electrocatalytic materials development, particularly for water splitting and pollutant degradation applications.

His recent publications demonstrate a strong focus on electrocatalytic materials for renewable energy applications, particularly water splitting and hydrogen production. The research spans from fundamental studies of material properties to practical applications in energy conversion devices. A significant portion of his work involves developing novel electrode materials based on transition metal oxides, with emphasis on nickel, cobalt, and iron-based systems.

Prof. Valatka holds leadership positions in several prestigious organizations:

He leads the "Prospects for Green Ammonia in Sustainable Energy Development (AMPROSE)" project (2024-2026) and serves as Chief Researcher for project SV3240141. His administrative leadership has positioned KTU as a key player in regional and international research collaborations.

He leads the Electrochemistry and Chalcogen Chemistry research group, which focuses on developing advanced materials for electrochemical applications, particularly in energy conversion and storage. The group maintains strong international collaborations and has access to state-of-the-art facilities for materials synthesis and electrochemical characterization.
