Eugenia Valsami-Jones

Professor Eugenia Valsami-Jones is a Chair in Environmental Nanoscience and Director of the Facility for Environmental Nanoscience Analysis and Characterisation (FENAC) at the University of Birmingham. She holds a PhD from the University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne and a BSc in Geology from the University of Athens. Her research focuses on nanoparticle interactions with pollutants, biota, and biomineralization processes, with a particular interest in nanotoxicology and plastics sustainability.

She is a core member of the interdisciplinary Birmingham Plastics Network, addressing global plastic challenges through collaborative research. Her teaching includes courses on environmental pollution and nanotechnology safety. Recent publications emphasize nanomaterial safety-by-design, nanoplastics aging, and ecotoxicological assessments. She collaborates widely, contributing to policy frameworks for sustainable materials innovation.
