Eugenia Loffredo is a Lecturer in Translation Studies at the University of East Anglia (UEA), affiliated with the School of Politics, Philosophy, Language and Communication Studies. Previously based in the School of Literature, Drama and Creative Writing, she has taught translation theory and practice across multiple disciplines since 2000. She is a member of the British Centre for Literary Translation Research Group.
Her academic journey includes a BA in Literature and Philosophy from Middlesex University (1994), an MA in Literary Translation (1996), and a PhD in Literary Translation from UEA (2002). She also holds a HND in Multimedia from City College Norwich (2006). Her career spans teaching Italian language courses for Norfolk County Council (1997–2005), freelance translation work (1997–2002), and roles as a supervisor for City University London’s MA in Translating Popular Culture (2012–2018).
Loffredo’s research focuses on Intersemiotic Translation, exploring creative writing, media, and multimedia. Her work bridges literature and visual arts, emphasizing cross-media adaptation and transgeneric translation. Key areas include poetry translation, the relationship between language and the body, and creative pedagogy in translation.
Her publications span scholarly chapters, edited volumes, and peer-reviewed articles, with a focus on Apollinaire, Ungaretti, and feminist literary works. Notable works include One Poem in Search of a Translator (2009) and Translation and Creativity (2006). Her 2018 study on Ungaretti’s Tramonto exemplifies her intersemiotic approach.
Loffredo has curated exhibitions like transARTation – Wandering Texts, Travelling Objects (2017) and contributed to the Creative Literary Studio (2013), showcasing her commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration.
