Eudice E. Fontenot

Eudice E. Fontenot, M.D., is a Professor in the Department of Pediatrics — Division of Cardiology at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) and Arkansas Children’s Hospital. She has held faculty roles since 1998, including former Medical Director of the Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (2004) and current Vice Chair of Education in the Department of Pediatrics. Her clinical expertise focuses on general cardiology and cardiac catheterization, with contributions to developing the Pediatric Cardiology Fellowship Program into a nationally recognized training initiative. She actively participates in weekly cardiology clinics and the echocardiography laboratory team.

Dr. Fontenot’s academic background includes a medical degree from Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center Shreveport, followed by residency, internship, and fellowship training in pediatrics and pediatric cardiology. She is certified by the American Board of Pediatrics in Pediatric Cardiology and holds affiliations with the American Academy of Pediatrics and the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions.

Her research spans pediatric cardiology, congenital heart defects, and ECMO use in critically ill children. Notable studies include innovations in interventional cardiac techniques, renal function monitoring during ECMO, and management of postoperative complications such as intercostal neuralgia. Over 20 years, her work has addressed both clinical and translational challenges in pediatric cardiology.

Dr. Fontenot’s educational leadership includes shaping UAMS’s pediatric cardiology curriculum and training future specialists. Her clinical practice emphasizes pediatric cardiac catheterization and echocardiography, with a focus on congenital anomalies and complex cardiac cases. She is affiliated with Arkansas Children’s Hospital as a primary clinical site.
