Dr. Ethan Brue is a Professor of Engineering and Dean for Technology and Applied Sciences at Dordt University. He oversees departments including Engineering, Computer Science, and Physics, and co-authored A Christian Field Guide to Technology for Engineers and Designers, exploring the intersection of ethics, religion, and technology. He earned a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Iowa State University (1996) and a BSE from Dordt University (1992).
His research focuses on thermochemical reactor design, solar energy systems, biomass gasification, and fluidization, alongside interdisciplinary work in the historical and ethical implications of technological development. His recent essay In the Wholeness of Time (2024) examines how modern timekeeping devices shape human perception and behavior through a Christian lens.
As a licensed Professional Engineer in Iowa, Dr. Brue integrates faith-based perspectives into engineering education and practice. His leadership includes guiding Dordt’s curriculum development and serving on the Curriculum and Academic Policies Committee.
