Estelle Carde is a Full Professor (Professeure agrégée) in the Department of Sociology at Université de Montréal's Faculty of Arts and Sciences. She holds graduate degrees in Ethnology (Paris VII), Anthropology (Aix-Marseille), Biological Sciences (Toulouse III), and doctorates in Public Health and Sociology.
Her research examines how health inequalities embody social power relations through intersectional frameworks. Current projects investigate discrimination in healthcare access, effects of cultural activities on elderly health, and vulnerability in disadvantaged populations. Geographic specializations include French Guiana and Quebec.
Recent publications analyze virtual pain therapy, conceptual foundations of inequality, and physician perspectives on 'difficult patients.' Her award-winning book 'Discriminations et accès aux soins en Guyane française' documents healthcare barriers in French overseas territories.
