Professor Esra Karaca serves as Department Head of Nursing at Istanbul Beykent University's Faculty of Health Sciences. With over two decades of academic experience, she has held progressive academic positions from Lecturer to full Professor across multiple Turkish universities including Atatürk University, Harran University, Zirve University, and currently Istanbul Beykent University where she was promoted to Professor in 2023.
Her educational background includes a Doctorate from Atatürk University's Institute of Health Sciences (2005-2010) with thesis research on maternal anxiety and infant feeding, a Degree from the same institution (2002-2005) focusing on infant gas pain, and a Licence from Erzurum Health School at Atatürk University (1998).
Professor Karaca's research primarily focuses on pediatric nursing and maternal-child health, with particular emphasis on pain management in children, neonatal care, breastfeeding practices, and nursing education methodologies. Her recent work explores innovative approaches such as virtual reality for pain reduction during medical procedures and simulation-based training for crisis management skills development in nursing students. Her research consistently addresses practical clinical challenges in Turkish healthcare settings while contributing to international nursing literature through numerous conference presentations at national and international venues.
Throughout her career, Professor Karaca has taught extensively across the nursing curriculum including Child Health and Disease Nursing, Maternal and Child Health, Professional Orientation, Clinical Education, Ethics in Nursing, and specialized courses in neonatal care and evidence-based nursing practice. Her teaching spans from foundational courses for first-year students to advanced clinical applications for senior nursing students.
