Espen Ytreberg is a Full Professor at the Department of Media and Communication, University of Oslo. He coordinates the Faculty component of PhD education in the Humanities and has held leadership roles, including Head of Department (2009-2012) and Head of the PhD program in media studies (2007-2008). He has collaborated internationally as a visiting researcher in Paris and Iowa, USA.

Research Interests span Media History, Media Events, and Health Communication Regimes. His work examines how media shape collective temporal experiences and historical narratives.
Projects include the Norwegian Research Council-funded Media and Migrations (2011-12), Participation and Play in Convergent Media (2003-07, ERC-supported), and Health Communication Regimes (current, with Kjersti Thorbjørnsrud).
Editorial Roles include co-editing the Norwegian Journal of Media Studies and serving on the boards of Nordicom Review, Mediekultur, and OberCom.
