Prof. Ernst Bamberg holds the position of Full Professor in Biophysical Chemistry at Goethe University Frankfurt and serves as Director of the Department of Biophysical Chemistry at the Max Planck Institute for Biophysics. His academic journey includes a PhD in Physical Chemistry from the University of Basel (1971), habilitation at the University of Konstanz (1976), and a Heisenberg Fellowship (1979). Since 1993, he has led the Max Planck Institute department while maintaining his professorship at Goethe University.
His research focuses on advanced biophysical methodologies and molecular mechanisms in biological systems, particularly membrane proteins and cellular processes. The laboratory environments he oversees are dedicated to cutting-edge interdisciplinary studies combining physics and chemistry with biological applications.
