- Current Projects: Biography of Jamaican writer Claude McKay (Yale UP), new edition of Jean Toomer's Cane (Norton Library), theological analysis of Zora Neale Hurston's work
His work engages with Harlem Renaissance literature as part of broader transatlantic modernist movements. Philosophical analysis draws from German thinkers (Kant to Benjamin) with emphasis on aesthetics and phenomenology. Religious studies span ancient Mediterranean traditions to contemporary Caribbean practices.
Publications demonstrate interdisciplinary engagement with Black literary traditions, political philosophy, and theoretical frameworks. Key themes include: style analysis (charm, revision, grace), theological dimensions in 20th-century Black literature, and methodological approaches combining phenomenology with Black studies.
His academic roles include editorial projects with major university presses and critical editions of foundational texts in African American literature.
