Erkko Sointu is a Professor of Special Education at the University of Eastern Finland (UEF), affiliated with the School of Educational Sciences and Psychology. He holds a PhD in Special Education and serves as a docent in quantitative research methods at the University of Lapland. His primary research focuses on teaching methodologies, learning analytics, and behavioral-emotional functioning in education. Sointu actively participates in national/international networks like EDUsummIT and leads research initiatives such as the TOTY and SupportUNI projects.
His educational background includes training as a classroom teacher and extensive experience in both comprehensive and higher education. Key areas of expertise include flipped classroom pedagogy, strength-based approaches in education, and the integration of technology in special education contexts. Sointu has contributed to over 120 peer-reviewed publications and edited volumes, emphasizing practical applications of learning analytics and inclusive teaching strategies.
