Erin Trish

Erin Trish is an Associate Professor of Pharmaceutical and Health Economics at the University of Southern California's School of Pharmacy and serves as Co-Director of the USC Schaeffer Center for Health Policy & Economics. She is also a nonresident fellow in economic studies at the Brookings Institution and a scholar with the USC-Brookings Schaeffer Initiative for Health Policy.

Dr. Trish earned her PhD in health policy and economics from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and her BS in biomedical engineering from Johns Hopkins University. She completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the USC Schaeffer Center and the Fielding School of Public Health at UCLA.

Her research focuses on the intersection of public policy and healthcare markets, with particular expertise in surprise medical bills, prescription drug spending, healthcare market concentration, and healthcare reform. Dr. Trish's work examines how insurer and hospital market concentration affects health insurance premiums, the impacts of rating regulations in small group health insurance markets, provider payment in Medicare Advantage, specialty drug spending, and risk adjustment mechanisms. Her research has been funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the Laura and John Arnold Foundation.

Dr. Trish's recent publications demonstrate a strong focus on Medicare Part D, surprise billing regulations, pharmaceutical pricing, healthcare market competition, and the financial burden of healthcare on patients. Her work spans health policy analysis, empirical health economics research, and evaluation of regulatory interventions in healthcare markets.

Among her professional recognitions, Dr. Trish received the Seema Sonnad Emerging Leader in Managed Care Research Award in 2018. She has testified before the California State Assembly and presented her research at numerous federal agencies including the Congressional Budget Office, Federal Trade Commission, and the Center for Consumer Information and Insurance Oversight.

Dr. Trish maintains active research collaborations with colleagues at USC, Brookings Institution, and other leading health policy research organizations. Her work directly informs ongoing policy debates around healthcare market regulation, insurance design, and pharmaceutical pricing.
