Erin Seney is an Associate Research Scientist in the Marine Turtle Research Group at the University of Central Florida's Department of Biology (College of Sciences). She holds a B.A. in Biology from the University of Virginia, an M.S. in Marine Science from the College of William and Mary, and a Ph.D. in Wildlife and Fisheries Science from Texas A&M University. Her research focuses on marine turtle ecology, conservation biology, population dynamics, diet, movements, and threats, with implications for protected species policy.
She has developed specialized techniques such as a satellite transmitter attachment method for Kemp’s ridley sea turtles and collaborates on DNA metabarcoding projects to characterize diet and microbiomes. Her work involves long-term monitoring at Florida nesting beaches and in-water habitats, including studies on stranded turtle diets.
Honors include serving as an AAAS Science and Technology Policy Fellow at NOAA and NSF.
