Erin Rachel Bertelsen is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Physics & Applied Physics at the University of Massachusetts Lowell's Kennedy College of Sciences. Her research focuses on radiochemistry, particularly f-element separations, electrochemical separations, nuclear forensics, and nuclear fuel cycle technologies.
- Ph.D. in Applied Chemistry (2020), Colorado School of Mines
- B.S. in Chemistry (2016), Dickinson State University
Bertelsen's work explores advanced separation materials like functionalized mesoporous carbon supports, investigating radiation stability and synergistic extraction mechanisms for nuclear applications. Her publications span electrochemical reduction techniques, complexation studies, and chromatographic separations of rare earth elements and actinides.
Current research themes include optimizing nuclear waste processing, improving actinide/lanthanide partitioning, and developing radiation-resistant materials. Her methodological approaches integrate materials science, analytical chemistry, and electrochemical analysis.
