Dr. Erin Mulvihill is an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Ottawa, affiliated with the Department of Biochemistry, Microbiology and Immunology. She serves as Interim Director of the Biochemistry Graduate Program and conducts research at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute.
- BSc in Microbiology and Immunology (University of Western Ontario)
- PhD in Biochemistry (University of Western Ontario)
- Postdoctoral Fellowship at Mount Sinai Hospital, Lunenfeld-Tanenbaum Research Institute
Her research focuses on metabolic syndrome, type 2 diabetes, and cardiovascular disease, particularly mechanisms linking lipid metabolism, gut biology, and nutrient absorption. Key work includes investigating naringenin and nobiletin as therapeutic flavonoids for dyslipidemia and hepatic steatosis.
Recent studies demonstrate her group's expertise in mouse genetics and metabolic phenotyping, with publications in journals like Nature Medicine, Diabetes, and Arteriosclerosis, Thrombosis, and Vascular Biology. Her work spans liver biology, cardiac function, and systemic metabolism in diabetic models.
