Erin Krupa

Erin Krupa is an Associate Professor in the Department of Teacher Education and Learning Sciences at North Carolina State University (NC State). Her work focuses on mathematics education, curriculum development, and teacher professional development. She contributes to STEM education through innovative approaches like Project-Based Inquiry (PBI) Global and entrepreneurial pitch competitions. Krupa holds a Ph.D. in Mathematics Education from NC State (2011), an M.A. in Mathematics from Wake Forest University (2004), and a B.S. in Mathematics from Elon University (2002).

Her research emphasizes curriculum design, teacher education, and the validity of educational assessments. Notable projects include the Design & Pitch Challenges in STEM framework and the Quantitative Instrument Repository for mathematics education research. She teaches courses such as EMS 893 (Supervised Research) and EMS 704 (Curriculum Development and Evaluation in Science and Mathematics).

Krupa’s recent work addresses interdisciplinary learning ecologies, pandemic-era educational adaptations, and the role of teacher discourse in fostering student expertise. Her publications span functional reasoning in middle grades, non-traditional assessments in undergraduate mathematics, and validity evidence methodologies.

She is affiliated with the Math Education and STEM Education groups at NC State, contributing to initiatives like the Validity Evidence for Measurement in Mathematics Education (VM2ED) project.
