Erin Kathleen Small Capistrano is a Research Fellow at the Department of Literature, Area Studies and European Languages within the Faculty of Humanities at the University of Oslo. Her PhD project investigates the representation of violence in 1930s Federal Theatre Project Living Newspapers, analyzing their role as acts of resistance against systemic and subjective violence in American culture. She also compares these with UK living newspaper forms from the 1930s-1940s, exploring their relationship to news media and archival practices.
Education:
- B.A. in English & Theater Studies (Yale University)
- M.A. in Shakespeare Studies (King's College London)
Research focuses on how documentary theatre engages with violence through citation and archival impulses, interrogating ethics of performance, spectatorship, and activism. Recent work includes a conference paper analyzing censorship mechanisms in the Federal Theatre Project's Ethiopia (1936).
