Erin Hopkins

Erin Hopkins is an Associate Professor of Property Management in the Department of Apparel, Housing, and Resource Management at Virginia Tech’s School of Design. She is based in Wallace Hall and actively contributes to both teaching and research in sustainable property management.

Her research focuses on the intersection of green building policy and sustainability across environmental, social, and economic dimensions. She also explores how contemplative practices can foster mindfulness in higher education and the property industry. Her work bridges academic scholarship with practical application in real estate and sustainability.

Dr. Hopkins has been recognized for her teaching excellence through Virginia Tech’s Teacher of the Week and the “Thank a Teacher” program. Her research impact is reflected in awards such as the Best Paper in housing and interior design and the Woman of Influence honor from GlobeSt Real Estate Forum.

She serves on the Editorial Advisory Board for the International Journal of Sustainability in Higher Education, the IREM Foundation’s Board of Directors, IREM’s ESG Advisory Council, and is an executive committee member of the Contemplative Higher Education Alliance for Research, Teaching & Service. These roles highlight her leadership in sustainability and contemplative education.

Dr. Hopkins teaches courses in property management operations and sustainable property management, integrating both scholarly and practical perspectives into her curriculum.
