Erin Eife is an Assistant Professor in Criminology, Law and Society at George Mason University, investigating how criminal justice systems stratify citizenship rights. Her NSF-funded research program examines pretrial processes, surveillance technologies, and health impacts of criminalization.
Current projects include a book on pretrial release in Cook County and studies on rural disparities in court decision-making. Her work reveals how electronic monitoring and court obligations create 'liminal punishment' for defendants awaiting trial, disproportionately affecting marginalized communities.
She teaches Research Methods and Corrections, integrating field methodologies like courtroom ethnography and public records analysis. Research supported by NIH, ACLS/Mellon Foundation, and Social Science Research Council advances understanding of structural inequalities in justice systems.
