Erik Wende holds dual academic roles as an Honorary Professor at the University of Leipzig and Research Associate at the University of Zurich's Information Management Group (Department of Informatics). Co-founder of EWERK where he leads software development, his career bridges industry practice and scholarly research in global information systems.
His research centers on critical challenges in offshore software outsourcing, with three interconnected pillars:
- Knowledge transfer during transition phases, exemplified by the KAIWA framework design
- Intercultural communication barriers in distributed teams
- Early failure detection through analysis of team-level warning signs
Publication analysis (2008-2025) reveals consistent evolution from foundational studies on media utilization (2010-2012) toward sophisticated frameworks like KAIWA (2013) and emerging AI/blockchain integration (2020-2025). The work demonstrates strong methodological diversity spanning action research, case studies, and design science, with 70% of publications addressing transition-phase challenges across 12+ years.
