Erik Teutloff is a researcher in the Department of Soil Ecology at the Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research - UFZ. He is currently pursuing his PhD within the DFG- and SNF-funded PhytOakmeter research unit, focusing on the clonal oak's ectomycorrhizal fungi and their responses to biotic and abiotic environmental factors.
- Research Focus: Plant-microbe interactions, microbial community assembly, climate change effects on forest ecosystems, drought resilience in oaks
- Methods: Microscopy-based ECM morphotyping, ITS2 Sanger sequencing, enzyme activity analysis, microbial diversity via metabarcoding
Key Projects: Subproject 5a of PhytOakmeter, investigating adaptation mechanisms in ectomycorrhizal fungi. Prior work included studying the Arabidopsis thaliana phyllosphere microbiome and its interaction with Sclerotinia sclerotiorum.
Technical Expertise: 16S/ITS2 metabarcoding, fluorescence microscopy, phytohormone analysis, experimental design for plant-microbe systems
