Erik Søndenaa is an Associate Professor at the Department of Mental Health, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at NTNU. His research focuses on the intersection of the criminal justice system and individuals with disabilities, particularly cognitive impairments. He has explored topics such as coercion in healthcare, psychotropic medication use, and accommodations for disabled individuals in legal proceedings. Søndenaa collaborates internationally and leads the Research Group for Legal Security. He teaches courses like VET2008 and VET2003, addressing intellectual disabilities and cognitive functioning.
His research spans forensic psychology, neurodevelopmental disorders in legal contexts, and healthcare access for disabled adults. Notable projects include studies on food-related coercion and healthcare transitions. He has presented at conferences globally, including the European Congress of Mental Health in Intellectual Disabilities and the Nordic Symposium on Forensic Psychiatry.
