Prof. Erik Pieter Jansen is a full Professor of Controlling at the Faculty of Economics and Business, University of Groningen. He holds dual Master's degrees in Public Administration and Political Science from Leiden University (1992-1993) and a PhD in Economics from Groningen (2000). His research focuses on management accounting systems, organizational control mechanisms, and their application in both public and private sectors. Key areas include performance measurement, leadership impacts on accounting practices, and bridging theory-practice gaps in management accounting.
He has served as Programme Director for the BSc/MSc Accountancy & Controlling (2010-2016) and currently leads the Executive Master in Finance & Control. Awards include the Jim Bulloch Award (2009) and Best Paper Award (2008). His teaching spans executive education in controllership, management accounting, and strategic management, with collaborations at Hanze University and Erasmus University. Research grants include CIMA-funded projects on extending managerial timeframes through accounting interventions.
Professional activities include director roles at Flynth Consultants & Accountants and treasurer of G.W.V. Arenicola. His work emphasizes practical applications, with publications in Management Accounting Research, Accounting Auditing & Accountability Journal, and contributions to textbooks like Management Control Systems by Merchant & Van der Stede.
