Erik Haufs is a PhD student and Scientific Employee at the Chair of Mathematical Statistics, Ruhr University Bochum, under Prof. Dr. Axel Bücher. His role in the ClimXtreme project focuses on extreme value theory applied to climate change and time series analysis. He holds a B.Sc. (2023) and M.Sc. (2024) in Mathematics, with a strong academic record (grades: 1.1 and 1.3 respectively).
Education:
- PhD in Mathematical Statistics (2024–2027, Ruhr-University Bochum)
- M.Sc. Mathematics (2021–2023, Heinrich-Heine-University Düsseldorf)
- B.Sc. Mathematics (2021, shortened to 4 semesters)
Research interests span Extreme Value Statistics for Time Series, Extreme Weather Events (via ClimXtreme), and Computational Neuroscience. Recent work includes a preprint on bias-corrected estimation methods in extreme value analysis. His grants include a RUB Research School Travel Grant (2025) and a Studienstiftung PhD Scholarship.
Awards:
- Theodor-Schwann-Medal (2021)
- German Mathematical Society (DMV) A-level award
- International Realization Grant (2025)
- Studienstiftung PhD Scholarship (2024–2027)
He has held roles as a teaching assistant (Heinrich-Heine-University) and research assistant (Research Center Jülich). Volunteering includes mentoring in mathematical academies and leadership in table tennis.
