Erik Davis is Professor and Chair of Religious Studies at Macalester College. His scholarship centers on Buddhism, ritual, and religious theory, with a regional emphasis on Cambodia.

Research Interests
Davis investigates early Buddhist sectarianism, meditative practices, and philosophical development. His fieldwork in Cambodia (2003-2006) underpins studies of Buddhist funeral rituals, temple boundaries (sīmā), and folktales. Current research examines ritual creativity in Cambodian protest movements. His book manuscript "Each Other’s Destiny: Rebirth and Relationship in Cambodian Buddhism" is forthcoming from the University of Hawai`i Press.

Active in the Association of Asian Studies (AAS), American Academy of Religions (AAR), and International Association of Buddhist Studies (IABS), Davis has served on committees for Buddhism and Southeast Asia.
