Erik Christiansen

Erik Christiansen is an Associate Professor in the Department of Regional Health Research at the University of Southern Denmark. His academic qualifications include a Ph.D. in 'Risk factors for suicide attempts' (2015) and a cand.scient.oecon degree. He is affiliated with the IRS - Mental Health Services in the Region of Southern Denmark and the Research Unit of Mental Health Services in Aabenraa.

His research focuses on mental health epidemiology, suicide prevention strategies, and healthcare utilization patterns. Key topics include comorbidity in suicidal populations, adolescent self-harm risk factors, and the effectiveness of school-based interventions. He has led projects such as Project ROS, which develops suicide prevention gatekeeper programs, and collaborates on studies analyzing healthcare access before and after suicide attempts.

Christiansen has received awards including the Nordentoftprisen 2016 and a 2024 'Best Poster' recognition. His work has been featured in media outlets discussing Danish suicide trends and prevention efforts. He supervises PhD students and contributes to peer-reviewed journals in Psychiatry, Public Health, and Suicide Research.
