Erik Brolin is a Senior Lecturer in Product Design Engineering at the School of Engineering Science, University of Skövde. He specializes in Digital Human Modeling (DHM), Ergonomics, and Simulation-Based Optimization, focusing on applications in automotive design, industrial production, and human-robot collaboration. His work integrates statistical analysis, anthropometric data, and virtual tools to enhance product design, workplace safety, and user-centered systems.
Erik holds a PhD in Engineering (2016) and has authored/co-authored numerous publications in journals and conferences like the International Ergonomics Association (IEA) and the Digital Human Modeling Symposium (DHM). He leads and participates in research projects such as TIMEBLY (2021–2024) and ADOPTIVE (2021–2024), addressing challenges in ergonomics assessment, digital tool development, and sustainable design practices.
His research interests include optimizing productivity and worker well-being through multi-objective frameworks, inclusive design for aging populations, and the proactive integration of ergonomics in early product development phases. He has contributed to the development of tools like IPS IMMA, enhancing virtual ergonomics simulations and anthropometric diversity considerations in industrial settings.
Erik’s work bridges academic research with industry applications, emphasizing practical solutions for ergonomic challenges across sectors. He also contributes to curriculum development, including courses in Product Design Engineering at both bachelor’s and master’s levels.
